ANIMAL WELFARE CONFERENCE

“ENFORCEMENT OF ANIMAL WELFARE

RELATED EU LEGISLATION”

12 - 13 JUNE 2012, BRUSSELS
Permanent Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany to the European Union

January 2012 the draft European Animal Welfare Strategy (2011-2015) is announced by the EU Commission. Better enforcement of existing legislation will be one of the essential aspects.

The EU Commission as “Guardian of The Treaties” and the 27 Member States have to provide appropriate and effective systems  to bring  the legislation in force.
Goal of the conference is to develop solution strategies for the different levels, following  defined problem indicators as reason for diverse lack of enforcement. In consequence the analyses will be structured on the vertical co-operation from the EU to the local level and on the horizontal co-operation of veterinarians,
investigative authorities, judges and lawyers in the enforcement systems. The role of education and the role of the market will also be pointed out as part of the achievement of  better enforcement of EU Animal Welfare related legislation. Debates on case studies will incorporate practice.  The result of the Conference aims to  be considered in  the new Animal Welfare Strategy of the EU and for strengthening  enforcement on the level of the Member States.

In the name of all above mentioned organising institutions we invite  you to this conference.

Please block the date. The agenda will be available  soon. Invitations will follow.
